Football associations of countries write about this.
The boycott was previously supported by Poland, Latvia, Lithuania, Sweden, England and Ukraine.
The Latvian Football Federation stated that Latvian national teams of all levels will not play against Russian teams, because this contradicts their position on Russia’s war against Ukraine.
The President of the Polish Football Union, Cezary Kulesza, said that he was surprised by UEFA’s announcement about the return of Russian U-17 teams to the international arena.
If Russian teams are allowed to compete, then our teams will not compete with them. This is the only correct decision,” Kulesha wrote.
The Ukrainian Football Association confirms that it will not participate in any competitions involving Russian teams and asks other UEFA member associations to boycott possible matches involving teams from Russia, subject to their admission.
“We are convinced that the adoption of such decisions regarding the gradual return of teams from Russia to participation in competitions in the midst of hostilities waged by the Russian Federation against Ukraine is groundless and tolerant of Russia’s aggressive policy.”
On September 27, it became known that UEFA will allow Russian teams whose players are under 17 years old to compete internationally. Matches of Russian teams will be held without the country’s flag and anthem, as well as on neutral territory.
At the same time, UEFA emphasized that it continues to condemn Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.
