The Boeing P-8A Poseidon is designed to detect and destroy enemy submarines in areas of patrol, reconnaissance, as well as participation in anti-ship and rescue operations.
It was previously reported that two NATO reconnaissance aircraft monitored the situation in temporarily occupied Crimea on September 23. Then a Lockheed EP-3E Aries II aircraft with the call sign QW89 (a long-range electronic reconnaissance aircraft of the US Navy) appeared in the air over Romania and coastal waters. Another aircraft for electronic reconnaissance, a Bombardier Challenger 650 ARTEMIS with the call sign CL60, also took to the skies.
Let us recall that the Boeing P-8 Poseidon is a patrol and anti-submarine aircraft developed under the multi-role maritime aircraft program to replace the Lockheed P-3 Orion.
