Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Committee on Agrarian and Land Policy Alexander Gaidu stated this during the round table “18 months of war. Damage to the agricultural sector and prospects for recovery of the industry,” reports the Ukrinform agency.
It is noted that losses in the agricultural sector include:
- direct losses were confirmed – more than $8.7 billion. USA (destruction of infrastructure, economic facilities, supply chains, destruction and theft of grain and agricultural machinery by the enemy);
- indirect losses – at least 30.5 billion dollars. USA.
The People’s Deputy emphasized that this amount, unfortunately, is not final:
- it will increase significantly if the damage caused as a result of the explosion of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station by the Russians is calculated;
- It is also difficult to assess the consequences of contamination of agricultural land with explosive objects, destruction of the upper layers of soil due to “arrivals” and explosions during mine clearance.
We see that a large area is mined. There are 174 thousand square kilometers of Ukrainian lands potentially contaminated with explosive objects. And this does not take into account the temporarily occupied regions,” the deputy noted, notifying in this regard of the preparation of the bill “On Soil Quality.”
