The American Institute for the Study of War (ISW) reported this on September 27 in its daily report.
In footage from the Zaporozhye direction published on September 26, a drone strikes Ukrainian infantry in a trench near the village of Verbovoye. The geo-intelligence group of the Institute for the Study of War managed to identify the area.
They claim that these are Russian fortifications, which are located about a kilometer west of Verbovoy. According to analysts, the use of a Russian UAV there indicates that the Russians have been driven out of their trenches.
The unnamed Russian soldier said that Ukrainian troops had already passed through minefields and anti-tank fortifications – the so-called “dragon’s teeth” on the Robotino-Verbovo line – and that Ukrainian forces would sooner or later carry out such attacks.
On September 26, ISW reported that the Ukrainian Armed Forces had reached the outskirts of Novoprokopovka, and Russia had transferred forces to Tokmak. Analysts believe that the Russian command has not equipped the multi-echelon defense in southern Ukraine.
Ukrainian counter-offensive operations may have led to the degradation of the elite Russian airborne units that were responsible for counterattacks in southern Ukraine, ISW writes.
