Navalny’s 19-year sentence, which was carried out, will expire on December 2, 2038.
The First Court of Appeal of General Jurisdiction rejected the appeals of Alexei Navalny’s defense against the verdict in the case of an extremist community. In this case, the politician faces up to 19 years in a special regime colony. This was reported by the Russian propaganda news agency. Interfax.
“For the rest, leave the verdict of the Moscow City Court of August 4, 2023 unchanged, and the appeals are not satisfied,” said the court decision.
However, the court made some changes to Navalny’s sentence: it removed the phrase “particularly dangerous repeat offender” from the reasoning part, but this change has no legal consequences.
The lawyers explained that, taking into account the decision of the appeals court, Navalny’s 19-year sentence, which has now been implemented, will end on December 2, 2038. Navalny will be taken to a colony in the near future.
On August 4, the Moscow City Court, along with the preliminary punishment, sentenced Navalny to 19 years in prison in a special regime colony as a particularly dangerous repeat offender.
We remind you that Alexei Navalny was sentenced to 19 years in prison in a special regime colony on the charge of “extremism”.
Earlier, in March 2022, Navalny was found guilty of “fraud” and then “insulting a judge,” and was sentenced to 9 years in a maximum security colony for a combination of “crimes.”
