The Counterintelligence of the Security Service was detained in the Chernigov region as an informant for the Russian special services, collecting intelligence information about Ukrainian troops and critical infrastructure on the region’s borders. This was reported by the SBU press service.
“First of all, the enemy is interested in information about the locations of checkpoints, the number of personnel, the presence of military equipment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the construction of military aviation facilities in the region. In addition, the person involved in the assignment of the enemy’s intelligence services collected information about the energy infrastructure facilities of the center regional,” the SBU said in a statement.
During the search, the detainee was found to have a mobile phone with evidence of communications with Russian intelligence services.
“According to the investigation, the enemy informant was a local resident who came to the attention of the occupiers during the occupation of part of the region because of his pro-Kremlin views. In May of this year, a representative of the special service of Russia Far contacted the man and offered him cooperation in the war against Ukraine. Subsequently, the Russian informant began to carry out the activities of the enemy, which he reported to the aggressor in an unknown chat,” the SBU press service reports.
To hide his activities, the enemy agent immediately deleted all messages after each communication session with the Russian handlers, but the SBU officers collected a reasonable evidence base on the person involved and informed he is suspected of unauthorized dissemination of information about the direction, movement of weapons, weapons and ammunition in Ukraine, movement , movement or placement of APU.
The detainee is in custody and faces up to 12 years in prison.
