In the warehouse where the fuel tank exploded, fuel was given to people traveling from Nagorno-Karabakh to Armenia.
On the night of September 25, a powerful explosion occurred in a fuel warehouse near the Stepanakert (Khankendi) – Askeran highway in Nagorno-Karabakh. This was reported by the Armenian service of Radio Liberty in connection with the State Emergency Service.
According to local Telegram channels, a fuel tank had previously exploded. Local residents reported that at that moment there were many people at the gas station hoping to refuel to get out of Nagorno-Karabakh.
On the morning of September 26, 20 deaths and more than 200 injuries were reported. A large number of people “who were burned and there is no information about them” are considered missing.
“290 victims with burns of varying severity were hospitalized in medical centers. Seven people died in the hospital. The bodies of 13 have not yet been identified. Dozens of people are in very serious condition, “said the Nagorno-Karabakh Ministry of Health.
The Karabakh Ombudsman said the region’s medical capabilities are insufficient to save lives, and air ambulances must be deployed immediately.
The Ministry of Health of Armenia reported that a team of doctors with the necessary medical equipment and medicines flew by helicopter to Stepanakert to provide assistance to the victims. At Stepanakert Central Clinical Hospital, patients are preparing for evacuation.
Let’s recall that on September 19, Azerbaijan launched a new military operation in Nagorno-Karabakh to “restore constitutional order.” Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan noted that Armenia does not intend to take military action with Azerbaijan.
On September 20, Karabakh announced a ceasefire and disarmament. The next day, negotiations began between representatives of the Azerbaijani authorities and residents of Armenian origin in Karabakh in the Azerbaijani city of Yevlakh. Meanwhile, thousands of refugees are leaving the region.
