Russian President Vladimir Putin could give Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu until early October 2023 to improve the situation on the front line, stop Ukrainian counter-offensives and return the initiative to Russian troops to launch an offensive operation. This is stated in a report by the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW), citing data from an insider source in the Kremlin.
Russian military commanders may be ordering ongoing counterattacks in hopes of forcing the Ukrainian counteroffensive to reach a climax, even at high cost to Russian military capabilities, analysts say.
Putin could also order the military to hold all occupied positions in order to create the illusion that the actions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, despite the support of the West, “did not bring a single tactical or operational effect.”
Analysts believe that such propaganda can be successful if the occupiers can actually prevent the Defense Forces from achieving their goals.
Let us recall that ISW noted that during the counteroffensive the Ukrainian Armed Forces will be able to achieve a significant operational breakthrough on the southern front line if three conditions are met.
