Riga authorities have launched a plan to prepare the civil defense for the possible threat of Russian invasion.
Riga is preparing for a possible military invasion from the Russian Federation. In particular, the authorities of the capital of Latvia check shelters and buy beds from them. Delfi reported this on Sunday, September 24.
“Riga city authorities purchased 184 beds, 228 mattresses and 342 pillows as part of the decision to create material and technical reserves for civil defense,” said the city’s executive director Janis Lange in a report to the Riga City Council.
He also said that Riga authorities are developing a civil protection plan and hiring relevant specialists. In addition, a unified emergency and disaster management system will be created in the city.
It is known that in 1991 in Latvia, according to the Fire and Rescue Service, there were 311 bomb shelters. But during the global economic crisis in 2008-2009, the state removed the status of civil defense objects from a number of bunkers.
Let’s recall that on June 1 in Kyiv, debris from downed enemy missiles damaged a clinic and a residential building. Three died, including two children. They could not enter the shelter because it was closed.
The head of the clinic, in whose building the shelter was closed, was placed under house arrest.
