The speaker of the lower house of the US Congress said that aid to Ukraine will not be removed from the Pentagon’s funding for next year.
The leader of the US House of Representatives, Republican Kevin McCarthy, said he would leave the provision for $300 million in aid to Ukraine in the Pentagon funding bill. He said this on Saturday, September 23, in a conversation with reporters, reports The Hill.
McCarthy said he decided to leave $300 million in aid to Ukraine out of the document, realizing that the draft law on funding the State Department and foreign operations also provided money for Kyiv.
The spokesman said that it “became more difficult” to remove aid to Ukraine from the budget of the State Department and foreign operations, so he decided to leave funds for Ukraine in both budgets.
Next week, the House is scheduled to hold a single procedural vote on four appropriations bills, including funding for the Pentagon, State Department and overseas operations.
It noted that the Pentagon funding bill provides an allocation of $300 million “to provide assistance, including training, equipment, lethal assistance, logistics support, supplies and services, salaries and scholarships, logistics and intelligence support to the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the national security forces of Ukraine, and other forces or groups recognized and controlled by the Government of Ukraine, including government entities involved in countering Russian aggression against Ukraine, to exchange any weapons or items given to the Government of Ukraine under the inventory of the United States.”
Let’s remember that the following year the US Senate passed a record defense budget.
