To resign from his mandate, Shufrich had to write a corresponding statement with his own hand. Another option is a court decision that enters into legal force.
Verkhovna Rada Speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk explained under what conditions it is possible to remove Nestor Shufrych, accused of treason, of his deputy command. Stefanchuk spoke about this in an interview with Radio Liberty.
He recalled that the mechanisms for removing a representative of the Verkhovna Rada of his mandate “are clearly spelled out in the seven points provided for the Constitution of Ukraine.”
“I want to remember that now there is such and such – let’s change the Constitution. During martial law, the Constitution cannot be changed. And therefore we must use these seven points,” said Stefanchuk.
He explained that in order to resign from his mandate, Shufrich had to write a corresponding statement with his own hand.
“For his current state, of course, there are such grounds. This is his own statement. If he wishes, he will write it. And the second is a court decision that has entered into legal force. Because, thank God, there is a court in Ukraine. And by the way, as a lawyer, I have no right to comment on these matters while the investigation continues,” said Stefanchuk.
He emphasized that only the decision of the court in a criminal case that entered into legal force is an absolute and irrefutable criterion for admitting the guilt of any person.
We remind you that on September 15, the SBU detained Nestor Shufrych at his house in the village of Kozin, Kyiv region. On the same day he was informed of the suspicion of treason. The people’s representative found a diagram of the “autonomy” of Donetsk and Lugansk regions, as well as symbols of the Russian Federation.
According to the investigation, Shufrich, in close cooperation, carried out the activities of the Russian agent and former Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, Vladimir Sivkovich. One of Shufrich’s main tasks is subversive activities in the information field.
Kyiv’s Pechersk court sent the people’s representative under arrest for 60 days without the possibility of bail.
He was also removed from his position as chairman of the freedom of speech committee.
