In Nagorno-Karabakh, the deputy commander of the Russian “peackeepers” and the colonel of the Central Military District of the Russian Federation were “minized.”
A car with Russian peacekeepers was shot at in Nagorno-Karabakh. Everyone in the car died. As the Russian Ministry of Defense said, the Russians were attacked with small arms while returning from an observation post near the village of Dzhanyatag. It later emerged that there were top officers of the Russian armed forces in the car.
“Died for Peace”
The killing of Russian military personnel occurred at a time when Azerbaijan was conducting a new military operation in Karabakh. Russian and Azerbaijani investigators immediately began work at the scene of the incident.
The death of Russians commented the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Maria Zakharova. He said their “peacemakers” “died for peace.”
“Wine” of Azerbaijan
Now Baku has taken responsibility for the situation in Karabakh. In particular, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev called his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin and apologized for the shooting of military personnel by the “Russian peacekeeping contingent.”
“A thorough investigation into the incident will be conducted, and all those responsible will receive appropriate punishment. In this regard, the prosecutor general offices of the two countries are in close contact,” the Kremlin said in a statement.
According to Moscow, Aliyev is ready to provide financial assistance to the victims’ families.
Subsequently, after Aliyev’s conversation with Putin, the Interfax agency reported, citing a source in the Russian security forces, that the commander of the Azerbaijani army corps, the subordinates allegedly responsible for deaths of Russian “peacekeepers”, were removed from duty, and the first suspects were detained.
Removal of top officials
Officially, the number of dead and names were not announced. Although, according to Russian media, four people died in the car, including Ivan Kovgan, captain of the first rank, deputy commander of the submarine forces of the Northern Fleet of the Russian Federation for military-political work. Let’s remember that this is the largest development of strategic nuclear submarines in Russia.
Kovgan himself, from the Murmansk region, however, has been in Nagorno-Karabakh since May 11 and served as deputy commander of the Russian “peackeepers” there. The highest official of the Russian Federation died three days before his 53rd birthday.
Russian media also added that another of the dead was Colonel of the Central Military District Tagir-Murod Karaev.
“He and his replacement went to relieve his people at the post. Their car was shot. They killed everyone,” said the sources for the propagandists.
Colonel Karaev served in the 29th brigade of the Central Military District, in the radiation, chemical and biological defense forces. A military unit as part of the “peacekeeping corps” is stationed in Nagorno-Karabakh.
