People’s Deputy Yevgeny Yakovenko was placed on the wanted list of Interpol of Belarus. The Ukrainian deputy was sent to a pre-trial detention center.
Deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Evgeny Yakovenko was detained on the Moldovan border. This was reported by the local edition of Deschide, citing the department’s spokeswoman, Raisa Novițchi.
In a comment to Moldovan media, the head of the Moldovan Bureau of Interpol, Viorel Centiu, said that Yakovenko had been placed on the wanted list by Belarus’s Interpol.
He confirmed that Minsk authorities accused the Ukrainian MP of bribery and corruption and registered a request for his arrest and extradition.
The 56-year-old deputy was sent to a pre-trial detention center.
Recall that the Zaporozhye “gauleiter” was notified of suspicion of infidelity. The former regional MP, who in 2020 was elected to the regional council from the Opposition Platform for Life, accepted Russia’s invasion as an opportunity to realize his political ambitions, according to the SBU.
