The Commission considers that the reasons for temporary protection remain and should therefore be continued as a necessary response to the current unstable situation, the European Commission press service said in a statement.
Now the EC’s proposal must be approved by the European Council. The current European Union directive on the temporary protection of Ukrainian refugees is valid until March 2024.
Let us remind you that the EU directive on temporary protection was activated to accept millions of refugees from Ukraine. It expires in March next year.
Meanwhile, government spokesman Piotr Müller said that Poland is likely to reduce financial support for Ukrainians who fled Russian aggression against Ukraine.
Let us remind you that in the first half of 2023 the number of Ukrainian refugees abroad increased by 300-500 thousand people.
