If, within a month, prisoners comply with the standards determined by the Ministry of Justice, then the term of imprisonment will be reduced by 3 days, but not more than 10 months per year. That is, in 365 days a prisoner can “minus” 30 days,” Grivko explained on his Facebook.
According to Grivko, his innovation will save up to 8% of current annual expenses on dependents, which is approximately 200 million UAH.
The term of serving a sentence established by a court verdict for a person sentenced to imprisonment for a certain period of time is subject to reduction in the manner provided for by this article, if the convicted person carries out socially useful activities in the form of generating electrical energy using a bicycle-generating installation, says the explanatory note to the law
A member of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Social Policy, in a post on Facebook, is very proud of his own “creative bill,” but does not mention that for two years now a prison with identical conditions has existed in Brazil, where prisoners produce light for the streets.
It would be cool to see a gym that generates electricity. To create something new, you need to act decisively, persistently, creatively and differently! All resources for victory! Now it’s up to society,” explains Grivko.
This summer, Grivko registered a bill to reduce prison terms for reading books. He named books that, in his opinion, were “correct” to read.
Paulo Coelho’s “The Alchemist”, some works by Mark Twain, then Taras Shevchenko can be read. In my understanding, it is necessary for the Ministry of Justice to attract psychologists who will determine books for classifying crimes. For example, if a person stole something, then he is given books to read where there is an understanding of how people make money.
Grivka is 37 years old, before working in the Rada, this “servant of the people” worked as a sales manager at ChernigovGazSpetsServis LLC, and was a junior researcher at the Chernigov State Institute of Economics and Management.
