The start of the actions is associated with the European Commission’s report on Georgia’s implementation of recommendations for EU candidate status, which should appear in October-December.
The Georgian State Security Service clarified that the action is possible allegedly if the EU does not grant the country candidate member status at the end of 2023.
The organizers are considering the possibility of implementing a scenario in Georgia similar to the Euromaidan, which took place in Ukraine in 2014, the State Security Service of Georgia reported on its Facebook account.
According to this Georgian agency, the organizers are planning possible scenarios, including the erection of barricades in the center of Tbilisi and the blocking of government buildings. The security service also clarified that the current deputy head of Ukrainian military intelligence, Gia Lordkipanidze, is one of the authors of this plan.
The State Security Service of Georgia did not provide evidence of the preparation of unrest. Ukraine had not yet commented on the statement at the time of the news release.
Georgian oppositionist and leader of the Agmashenebeli Strategy party Giorgi Vashadze called this statement an attempt to divert the attention of the country’s citizens from important issues.
In March 2023, amid mass protests in Tbilisi, the head of the ruling party of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze, said that Russia’s war against Ukraine was allegedly “a consequence of the Maidan.”
Ukrainian citizen Saakashvili has been in a Georgian colony for the second year with the status of a foreigner and is experiencing significant health problems.
Parliamentary elections will be held in Georgia in 2024.
