This was reported by Defense Express.
The published photographs show large holes in the bow and center of the submarine’s hull.
It is noted that these damages are so great that they cast doubt on the general possibility of restoring the submarine:
- such extensive damage to the bow means that all weapons elements could be destroyed, including torpedo tubes from which Kalibr cruise missiles and fire control systems can be launched;
- a lesion in the central part of the hull may mean that all the ship’s controls and even the compartment where the battery is located are destroyed.
The scale of the damage is such that in the future fate of the Russian submarine “Rostov-on-Don” there can be only two options – either restoration of the ship “from scratch”, or a more likely decommissioning as a “donor of spare parts” for other submarines in service with the Russian Black Sea Fleet, emphasizes edition.
