Ukraine’s neighboring EU countries (Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania and Bulgaria) say the flow of grains and oilseeds from Ukraine has reduced their farmers’ incomes.
The European Commission has called for constructive solutions from Poland, Hungary and Slovakia after the countries unilaterally said they would continue the embargo on grain imports from Ukraine, despite the EU’s decision to end the prohibition Reuters reported this on Sunday, September 17, citing the press secretary of the European Commission.
“We are aware of statements from some member countries about unilateral measures. It is important now that everyone works in a spirit of compromise and communicates well,” the statement said.
He added that a meeting with representatives of EU countries on Monday, September 18, will allow us to discuss the issue of restrictions on the import of Ukrainian grain.
It should be noted that on September 15, the European Commission refused to continue the temporary ban on the import of Ukrainian wheat, corn, sunflower seeds and rapeseed to the five EU countries neighboring Ukraine. At the same time, Ukraine agreed to introduce some legal measures within 30 days to prevent a sharp jump in grain exports.
Despite this, Poland, Hungary and Slovakia announced the introduction of unilateral restrictions on Ukrainian grain imports.
Romanian farmers are asking the government to ban the import of Ukrainian grain and other food products, despite the fact that the European Commission has decided to lift the restrictions.
Let us remind you that the day before the Polish government introduced an indefinite ban on the import of agricultural products from Ukraine, in particular wheat, corn, rapeseed and sunflower.
