US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on September 16-17 in Malta, where Russia’s war against Ukraine was discussed, according to the White House website.
“The parties discussed key issues in bilateral relations between the United States and China, global and regional security issues, Russia’s war against Ukraine, and cross-strait issues, among others subject. The United States recognizes the importance of peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait,” it said in the message.
Both sides are committed to maintaining this strategic communication channel and to continuing further high-level engagement and consultation in key areas between the United States and China.
Let us recall that China has called for an immediate ceasefire in Ukraine and peaceful negotiations between the parties. This statement was made on Friday, September 8, at a Security Council meeting in New York by China’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, Gen Shuang.
