This country has decided to stop allowing cars with Russian license plates into the country. This happened after clarifications from the European Commission, and the ban itself will come into force from the beginning of the day on September 16. This was stated by Finnish Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen, Yle reports.
According to her, Finland believes it is important that EU member states take the same approach to applying sanctions and combating sanctions circumvention.
Thus, from September 16, only EU citizens and their family members and persons with diplomatic status will be able to enter Finland using Russian license plates. In addition, Russian cars can cross the Finnish border with certain exceptions for humanitarian reasons. And cars with Russian license plates that are already in Finland must leave the country within the next six months – until March 16, 2024.
Finnish border guards believe that the new rules will significantly reduce cross-border traffic between Finland and the Russian Federation.
Let us remind you that Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia have already banned the entry of cars with Russian license plates. Thus, the Baltic countries have implemented the recommendations of the European Commission, according to which EU countries are not allowed to allow private cars with Russian license plates into the territory of the European Union.
