In the past, South Korea did not impose its sanctions against the Russian Federation, but only supported international economic restrictions due to its aggression in Ukraine.

South Korean Foreign Minister Park Jin said the country could impose unilateral sanctions against Russia against the backdrop of the recent meeting between dictators Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong-un, which raised concerns in Seoul about on military cooperation between the Russian Federation and the DPRK. Yonhap reports.

“North Korea reaching any arms trade-related agreement with Russia would be a serious threat to security and peace on the Korean Peninsula,” Pak Jin said.

Regarding the review of unilateral sanctions against North Korea and Russia, Park responded that the government is considering all possible measures to put pressure on these countries.

As is known, South Korea previously did not impose its sanctions against the Russian Federation, but only supported international economic restrictions because of its full-scale aggression against Ukraine.

According to Park, military cooperation, including arms trade, between North Korea and Russia is a violation of UN Security Council resolutions against the DPRK.

Let’s recall that on September 13, Vladimir Putin met with Kim Jong-in at the Vostochny Cosmodrome in the Amur Region. They agreed to the transfer of North Korean shells.

Earlier, Kim Jong-un said his visit to Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin was of “strategic” importance.
