For only five percent of its military budget, the United States has the opportunity to destroy the Russian army with 1,500 nuclear warheads aimed at America.

US Republican Senator Mitt Romney, a former presidential candidate, said the US should continue funding military aid to Ukraine. His words on Thursday, November 14, were reported by the Telegraph.

Romney said that “destroying Russia’s military” with only five percent of the US defense budget was a “very wise investment.”

So he responded to critics within his party who argued that America could not afford to continue funding the Ukrainian army by saying: “The idea that it’s too expensive is pretty ridiculous.”

“We spend about $850 billion a year on defense. We use about five percent of that to help Ukraine. My God, to defend freedom and destroy the Russian army – a country with 1,500 nuclear warheads aimed us. The ability to do this with Five percent of your military budget seems to me to be a very smart investment and not something we can’t afford,” he said.

Romney believes the West has taken “extraordinary steps to come together and provide Ukraine with the weapons it needs.” However, he cautions against complacency.

“What worries me is that in my country some people are saying, ‘OK, we’ve done enough, let’s move on.’ I think that’s very stupid and very short-sighted, because if Russia thinks it can get away with something, what it did in Ukraine, China will feel the same way about Taiwan, and other authoritarians will say, ‘Why don’t we take our neighbor’s population and resources?'” Romney said, adding that the world’s liberal democracies couldn’t deal with it. .

Let’s remember that the following year the US Senate passed a record defense budget.
