The world’s largest maritime cargo carrier, the Danish company Maersk, presented the world’s first ship running on biofuel (methanol). This was reported by the company’s press service.
The “godmother” of the facility, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, broke a bottle of champagne on the ship, named Laura.
“The new green ship is the breakthrough we need, but we still have a long way to go to reach zero emissions,” said company CEO Vincent Klerk.
Maersk reportedly has a net-zero greenhouse gas emissions target by 2040 and aims to transport at least 25% of ocean cargo using clean fuels by 2030.
In total, Maersk has ordered 24 additional methanol vessels between 2024 and 2027.
We remind you that the Danish carrier Maersk has resumed the delivery of goods to the Ukrainian port.
Last year, it was reported that the world’s largest carrier, Maersk, would completely leave Russia. The company began winding down its business in the Russian Federation in March last year.
