Finland has completed the construction of a test section of the border fence with Russia near the village of Imatru and now it has been officially implemented. This was reported by the Finnish media Yle.
The main part of the work has been completed. Border guards from South-Eastern Finland are on duty at the fence site. The builders only need to do some minor work, but the main elements of the fence, including the barrier, are ready.
“We are currently gaining experience using the barrier,” project manager Ismo Kurki told the TV channel.
He noted that the fence was completed in mid-August, but its commissioning was delayed due to the completion of the work.
Note that the Finnish Ministry of the Interior announced in June 2022 the government’s plans to install a fence “at critical areas on the eastern border” to prepare the country to fight “hybrid threats.”
Let’s add that in February, Finland began to build a “trial section” of a three-kilometer border fence with Russia at the Imatru border crossing. The fence being built is equipped with technical control systems.
