Before returning home, Ukrainian pilots will go to Europe, where the command will check their level of readiness.
Training Ukrainian pilots to fly American F-16 fighters can take from three to nine months. Breaking Defense wrote this on Wednesday, September 13, referring to the head of the US Air National Guard, Lieutenant General Michael Law.
According to the American military, the Ukrainians will study at the US Air National Guard base in Tucson. In his opinion, the most capable and fluent in English would be able to master the American fighters in a few months.
“For those who are now experienced fighter pilots, fly daily combat missions, defend their homeland, I think three months is completely realistic,” said the lieutenant general.
At the same time, the lieutenant general noted that the Ukrainians will not be able to use the F-16 on the battlefield immediately after graduation.
“They will first go to Europe, where the command will check their level of readiness. In addition, they need to arrange logistics support and train maintenance specialists,” said Lo.
Ukraine has agreed to supply up to 60 F-16 fighters, but needs another 100 of these machines to end Russia’s air dominance, President Vladimir Zelensky believes.
Ukrainian military leaders expect the Defense Forces to use F-16 fighters on the battlefield this winter.
