In May, the European Union allowed five countries neighboring Ukraine to introduce a ban on the sale of Ukrainian wheat, corn, rapeseed and sunflower seeds on the domestic market.
They aim to propose to Ukraine to continue the temporary ban on the export of Ukrainian grain to the five EU countries while simultaneously increasing the transit capabilities of the “solidarity corridors”. Ukrinform wrote about it on Tuesday, September 12, with reference to the European Commissioner for Agriculture Janusz Wojciechowski.
He noted that the EU has made efforts to ensure that Ukrainian grain is exported to “where it is most needed.” At the same time, he called the export restrictions in the five countries effective, allegedly allowing them to stabilize their markets.
“Let’s not destroy it. I hope that Ukraine will also share this strategy. Because the alternative is chaos – unilateral decisions of some member countries, problems with protests, blocking roads – all this will not be good for Ukraine, in any way. Especially in a situation where Ukraine’s Black Sea ports remain blocked,” emphasized Voitskhovsky.
At the same time, he proposed increasing exports through the so-called “EU solidarity corridors.”
“Thus, the transit capacity for Ukrainian grain can increase to 4.7 million tons per month,” said the European Commissioner.
He added that the EU will offer to pay Ukrainian companies compensation for the cost of grain transportation to maintain its price competitiveness in the global market.
Ukraine will appeal to World Trade Organization (WTO) arbitration Poland’s decision to extend a grain import ban until the end of the year.
We remind you that today Poland announced that the ban on the import of Ukrainian agricultural products, which should be in effect until September 15, will continue until the end of the year. Four other Eastern European countries may do the same that decision.
The Foreign Ministry called such actions “unacceptable” and emphasized that they do not correspond to the spirit of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU and the principles of the Single Market.
