Austria plans to jointly purchase air defense systems and train with Germany as part of the European Sky Shield air defense system. ORF writes about this with reference to a statement by Austrian Defense Minister Claudia Tanner during a press conference with Commander-in-Chief of the German Air Force Herfried Promberger.

According to Promberger, Vienna wants to purchase eight IRIS-T air defense systems: four short-range with a range of up to 15 km and four medium-range with a range of up to 50 km.
Delivery of the first system should take place one year after signing the contract. Tanner and Promberger did not specify the cost of the purchase, only indicating that it would depend on negotiations.
Let us recall that last fall, Berlin proposed the creation of the “Sky Shield” initiative, aimed at strengthening air defense in Europe and better concentrating efforts in this area. 19 European countries are already participating in the initiative.
