Lula da Silva guarantees the security of the Russian president if he comes to the G20 summit in Rio de Janeiro.
Despite the ratification of the Rome Statute and the obligation to comply with the decision of the International Criminal Court, Brazil does not intend to arrest Russian President Vladimir Putin in the event of a visit. The country’s leader, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, announced this in an interview with the Indian publication Firstpost.
“I believe that Putin can easily go to Brazil. I can tell you that if I were the president of Brazil and he (Putin – ed.) would go to Brazil, he would not be arrested under any circumstances,” he said.
The President of Brazil also added that the G20 summit is a forum for discussing economic issues, not politics. “That’s why we don’t want to discuss the war between Ukraine and Russia here in India. This is not the appropriate forum for it,” said the Brazilian leader.
On the sidelines of the G20 meeting in New Delhi, Lula said that Putin will be invited to the G20 meeting in Rio de Janeiro in 2024. And the President of Brazil himself is planning to attend the meeting of the BRICS bloc, which will be held in Russia before the meeting in Rio.
We remind you that Lula da Silva said that he intends to bring the presidents of Ukraine and Russia to the negotiating table at the UN General Assembly.
As you know, on March 17, the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for Putin, accusing him of illegally deporting thousands of children from Ukraine.
