The head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense, Kirill Budanov, believes that Russia’s war against Ukraine will not last long.
Ukraine’s counter-offensive will continue after the cold and wet weather, although the cold makes the fighting more difficult. This was said on Saturday, September 9, by the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Kirill Budanov, at the Yalta European Strategy forum, Reuters reports.
“The battle will continue one way or another. It is more difficult to fight in the cold, damp and mud. But the counter-offensive will continue,” said Budanov.
He added that the counter-offensive is taking place in different directions. At the same time, he admitted that Ukrainian troops are not advancing as quickly as they would like.
Explaining the reason for the slow progress, Budanov noted that in addition to the large concentration of Russian mines, the Russians continue to launch kamikaze drones, which slow down Ukraine’s progress.
At the same time, Budanov believes that the Russian war against Ukraine is not long-term.
“I do not share the opinion that this is a long war. This is my personal opinion, which is based on an analysis of the data that we have, first of all, on the enemy,” he said.
The head of the Main Intelligence Directorate stressed that the Russians are not capable of conducting a protracted battle.
“But, again, if you are talking about six months, seven months, a year, and you think that this is a long time, then obviously you would be right,” said the head of military intelligence.
As you know, the offensive of the Ukrainian Armed Forces has been ongoing since the beginning of June. During this time, we were able to free up more than 240 square meters. km of territory in Zaporozhye and Donetsk regions.
Meanwhile, the US Defense Intelligence Agency has assessed the possibility that the Ukrainian army will break through Russian defense lines by the end of this year.
