The African Union has received permanent membership status in the G20, an organization that unites the world’s 20 largest economies. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said this in his opening speech at the G20 summit, the Associated Press reported on Saturday, September 9.
“I invite the representative of the African Union to take his place as a permanent member of the G20,” Modi said, addressing Comoros President and African Union chief Azale Assoumani.
Modi said the leaders attending the summit should find concrete solutions to the broad problems that he believes are related to the North-South divide and the East-West divide.
In his opening remarks, the Indian Prime Minister mentioned the war, although he did not indicate where it was going or name the countries involved.
“Friends, after COVID-19, the world is facing a trust deficit problem. War has made this trust deficit even worse. If we can defeat COVID, we can defeat the trust deficit caused by war,” he said. .
We remind you that the 18th G20 summit will take place on September 9-10 in the capital of India, New Delhi. This is the first leadership meeting of the group to be held in South Asia.
The media earlier reported that the EU plans to take advantage of the absence of the leaders of China and Russia at the G20 summit in India to intensify its work with countries in the Global South.
