North Korea has announced the launch of a newly built nuclear submarine capable of conducting an underwater nuclear strike. This was reported by the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).
“The submarine launching ceremony marks the beginning of a new chapter in the strengthening of the DPRK’s navy,” the statement said.
It noted that the new tactical nuclear attack submarine “will fulfill the combat mission as one of the main underwater offensive weapons of the North’s naval forces.”
According to KCNA, North Korean leader Kim Jong-in attended the ceremony.
He called it “an urgent task of the hour” to equip the navy with nuclear weapons and called for the rapid transfer of “submarines and surface vessels equipped with tactical nuclear weapons” to the fleet .
Kim Jong Un also said that the rapid development of the navy is the “top priority” of national defense.
In the past, the DPRK said it had simulated a nuclear attack twice.
