Members of the European Parliament published an appeal to Zelensky calling on him to veto the declaration law, which provides a one-year delay in opening public access to the declarations.
Members of the European Parliament called on President Vladimir Zelensky to veto the law on opening declarations adopted by the Rada because of an amendment to postpone it for a year. An open appeal from European politicians on Thursday, September 7, was published on X (Twitter) by MEP Michael Gahler.
Zelensky was called to return the law to parliament.
The publication recalls that the Verkhovna Rada adopted a bill renewing the obligation to submit electronic property declarations for officials and people’s representatives. At the same time, the amendment, according to which these declarations will be closed to the public for another year, was also successfully voted.
“We call on President Vladimir Zelensky to return bill No. 9534 to parliament with a request to open the register and veto draft law No. 9587-d in its entirety,” Galer wrote.
The post contains a full statement from EP representatives about vetoing the electronic declaration law.
As you know, on Tuesday, September 5, the Verkhovna Rada adopted a bill on electronic declaration for representatives and civil servants, which removes responsibility for officials who did not indicate property in the declaration in the amount of up to 1.3 million hryvnias.
It was also reported that the veto petition was signed in record time – on the day of publication.
