The group is considering new ideas that will bring Ukraine closer to the countries of the European Union. In particular, it is the construction of a high-speed railway between Kiev, Warsaw and other capitals of the countries of the Three Seas.
Greece has been officially invited to the Trimoria Initiative. Ukraine and Moldova became associate members. This was announced on Wednesday, September 6, by Romanian President Klaus Iohannis, reports Polish Radio.
“We have decided to expand the number of relevant countries to include Ukraine and Moldova. This shows that both countries are moving towards the European Union. This also allows us to include both countries in our infrastructure project,” Iohannis said.
In this regard, Polish President Andrzej Duda said in Bucharest that the war in Ukraine has made the Three Seas Initiative an element of regional security.
“Not just trade, economic development. Not just tourism, which we talked about earlier, not just bringing people together, giving them the opportunity to travel and explore the world. Now, the war in Ukraine showed that it is a matter of our security, that sometimes it is possible or not to transfer equipment or materials,” added Andrzej Duda.
The Polish President said in Bucharest that the group is also considering new ideas that bring Ukraine and EU countries closer together.
“The idea being discussed today is the construction of a high-speed railway between Kiev, Warsaw and other capitals of the three seas to fulfill such a task in the eastern direction of a future member of the European Union. , which is Ukraine,” said Duda.
The Polish leader recalled that in 2018-2021, the countries of the group spent 80 billion euros on investments related to the Three Seas Initiative, and about 40 billion euros were allocated for related research.
The leaders of the 12 countries also agreed in Bucharest that the Three Seas Initiative will focus on projects related to green energy, advanced technology and digital security.
As it is known, the Trimorya project or the Baltic-Adriatic-Black Sea Initiative includes 12 EU countries from Central and Eastern Europe.
It will be recalled that last year, President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Ukraine should become a full member of the Three Seas Initiative.
Also last year, Ukraine became a partner of the Three Seas Initiative.
