Similar Minuteman III tests have been conducted many times, and this test was “not a result of current world events,” the US stressed.
The United States will conduct new tests of the Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM). This was announced on Tuesday, September 5, by Pentagon spokesman Patrick Ryder in a video briefing.
“The purpose of the missile test launch is to demonstrate the readiness of US nuclear forces, as well as the national nuclear deterrence force,” he said.
Ryder indicated that the US Air Force Global Strike Command will test an unarmed rocket from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California.
A Pentagon spokesman said the test was routine and planned several years ago.
It is assumed that the main part of the training rocket will land on the test site near Kwajalein Atoll in the Marshall Islands in the Central Pacific Ocean.
This is the third test of an American ICBM this year. The initial launch took place in April. The projectile then traveled 4,200 miles (6.7 kilometers) to Kwajalein Atoll in the Marshall Islands.
The Minuteman III missile has been in service with the US Army since 1970. The weight of the rocket is about 36 tons, the flight range is more than 9.5 thousand kilometers. The rocket is capable of reaching a speed of more than 24 thousand kilometers per hour.
Remember, on April 19, the US military conducted a test of the Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile.
