This was told by the commander of the operational direction “Tavria” Alexander Tarnavsky for The Guardian.
Demining took place only by infantry and at night. The Rashists spent 60% of their time and effort, namely more than a year, on mining the first line and only 20% each on the second and third. We didn’t expect that the Armed Forces of Ukraine would come so close,” said Tarnavsky.
According to him, Ukrainian troops are expanding the front of the breakthrough in both directions. In the center of the offensive, the Armed Forces of Ukraine are finishing the destruction of enemy units covering the retreat of Russian troops behind the second line of defense.
The Kremlin did not expect the Ukrainian Armed Forces to break through the first line. The Russian troops simply stood and waited for the Ukrainian army, shooting equipment with shells and drones, but now this barrier has been overcome, and the infidels are forced to resort to maneuvers, and we returned our tanks and other armored vehicles to the battlefield after demining,” said Tarnavsky.
According to him, the enemy is pulling up reserves not only from Ukraine, but also from Russia.
But sooner or later, the Russians will run out of all the best soldiers. This will give us an incentive to attack more and faster. We have everything ahead. When we started the counter-offensive, we spent more time than expected clearing mines. Unfortunately, the evacuation of the wounded was difficult. And this also slowed down our progress. In my opinion, the Russians believed that the Ukrainians would not pass this line of defense,” says the Ukrainian commander.
The Russian army has been preparing for the Ukrainian offensive for more than a year. As soon as equipment appeared there, they immediately began to fire and destroy it. Tarnavsky believes that there is a very big difference between the first and second lines of defense – the second line is not built so well, so the Armed Forces of Ukraine can use equipment.
The closer to victory, the more difficult. Why? Because, unfortunately, we are losing the strongest and the best. Now we have to concentrate on certain areas and see things through. No matter how hard it is for us, Tarnavsky stated.
