Alois Polak fought on the side of the separatists and killed at least four Ukrainian soldiers. Now his whereabouts are unknown.
The Prague City Court sentenced Alois Polak, who fought on the territory of Ukraine among the separatists, to 21 years in prison. This was reported on September 1 by the ČTK agency.
According to investigators, a resident of Brno was a sniper and killed at least four Ukrainian soldiers.
According to the agency, the court considered the case for the third time and again found the man guilty of terrorism and participation in a terrorist group. However, the murders have not come up in previous trials and the case materials are based mainly on Polak’s own Facebook posts.
Only now the accusation is backed up by the end of military expertise.
Established in December 2016, Polak left for the territory controlled by the military formations of the so-called “DPR” and actively participated in military operations against the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The man has been inactive on social media since April last year. This led his lawyer to “reasonably suspect” that his client was no longer alive. However, the judge referred to the statement of an expert who had information that the defendant continued to fight at the beginning of the summer.
If the sentence is declared final and Polak himself returns to the Czech Republic, he will have the opportunity in the future to seek a new trial in his case. In such cases, the original sentence is automatically set aside and the court orders a new trial.
It was previously reported that Czech courts issued nine sentences, which were implemented, for approving Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
