The administration of US President Joe Biden next week will announce the first deliveries of armor-piercing shells with depleted uranium to Kyiv, Reuters reports, citing sources.

According to the agency, such shells will be included in a new package of assistance to Ukraine. Depending on what else is included, the aid package will cost between $240 million and $375 million, one US official said. According to Reuters interlocutors, the cost and content of the aid package is still being specified.
One of the agency’s sources suggested that the new weapons would be used in American Abrams tanks, which will be delivered to Ukraine in the coming weeks. Politico reported that they would be delivered in mid-September.
The fact that the US presidential administration may approve the supply of depleted uranium shells for American Abrams tanks to the Ukrainian Armed Forces was reported in The Wall Street Journal in June.
In March, the British Ministry of Defense announced that, together with the Challenger-2 tanks, it would send armor-piercing shells containing depleted uranium to Ukraine.
In response, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that “the collective West is already beginning to use weapons with a nuclear component.” The British authorities have accused Putin of “deliberate misinformation”. Against this backdrop, Kremlin dictator Putin announced that Russia would deploy tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus.
In April, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki announced that they intended to create a service center for Abrams tanks in the country, as well as launch the production of depleted uranium ammunition.
