The US Department of Defense has ordered advanced medium-range air-to-air missiles AMRAAM from the American company Raytheon for Ukraine. On Thursday, August 31, the Pentagon website reports.
The document says that the American company Raytheon Missiles and Defense will buy AMRAAM missiles from various sources for $192 million. The number of missiles to be purchased was not disclosed.
This is planned to be done before November 29, 2024.
Funds for the purchase of missiles are allocated from the fund of the Security Assistance Initiative in Ukraine.
AMRAAM (AIM-120) – Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missile. It is an American all-weather medium-range air-to-air guided missile. Its main task is to defeat air targets beyond the target’s line of sight. The US military calls these rockets Slammer, meaning “crackers”.
It was previously known that the Pentagon overestimated the amount of military aid provided to Ukraine at $6.2 billion. This could mean that Washington has more additional funds to support Kyiv.
