Including asylum seekers from other countries, the average number of arrivals in Norway last week was 174 per day, the highest average since April 23, 2022.
Over the past week, 1,084 asylum applications from Ukrainian citizens have been registered in Norway, which, together with other arrivals, corresponds to the level of the beginning of a full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation. This was announced on Thursday, August 31, by the Norwegian Directorate of Immigration (UDI).
According to UDI director Frode Forfang, the average number of people seeking shelter in the Scandinavian country is more than 150 people a day.
“In this regard, we have introduced some additional measures. Time will tell if this is a temporary trend, or if it will remain stable at such a high level,” Fofanga said.
As of August 31, 56,707 Ukrainian refugees have arrived in Norway, more than 20,000 of them this year. In addition, in recent days some Ukrainians have arrived in the country who have not been registered as refugees.
Recall that the Czech Republic is preparing a program for refugees who want to return to Ukraine.
It has also been reported that Germany is calling for an extension of EU protection for refugees from Ukraine.
