In March at a meeting in the European Parliament, European Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson called for the complete elimination of Russian gas as soon as possible.
The European Commission has reiterated its call on EU member states to stop buying liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Russia. This was said at a briefing by the representative of the European Commission, Tim McPhee, reports European reality.
He emphasized that since February 2022, when Russia launched a large-scale invasion of Ukraine, Russian energy imports to the EU have significantly decreased, although LNG purchases have increased.
“The EU has completely stopped importing Russian coal. It has reduced Russian oil imports by almost 90%. And we have reduced total imports of Russian gas and liquefied natural gas by about two -third. So even though LNG imports have grown, their volume is still relatively small and has a very small share of our total energy imports,” said McPhee.
The representative of the European Commission also recalled the words that the European Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson back in March at a meeting in the European Parliament urged to completely get rid of Russian gas as soon as possible.
It was previously reported that US LNG exports to Europe have fallen sharply. In May, the US exported about 10.4 billion cubic meters. m of liquefied gas, which is 1.4% less than in April.
