BUFFALO, NY (AP) – A grand jury on Wednesday charged an 18 -year -old white man for the fatal shooting of 10 black people at a Buffalo supermarket with internal hate -motivated terrorism and first degree murder.
Peyton Gendron, who has been in custody since May 14, will appear in the nation’s district court on Thursday.
Gendron, who has since been in custody on May 14, resumed, is expected to appear in national court on Thursday.
The allegation or allegations will not be disclosed until the court announces it, the nation’s district attorney said.
Gendron was previously charged with first degree murder in a shooting in which up to three people were injured.
The federal government is also investigating the possibility of hate crime allegations against Gendron, appearing to detail his plans and racist motivation in hundreds of pages of writing he posted on the Internet shortly before his shooting. . The attack was broadcast live from a helmeted camera.
Investigators say Gendron drove nearly three hours from his home in Conclin, New York, to kill as many blacks as possible.
His attorney, Brian Parker, said he did not see the indictment and could not comment, adding that prosecution and defense attorneys barred the judge from hearing the case in public.
