Since the beginning of the war, the national police has received more than 93,000 messages from victims of sexual violence by the Russian invaders. This was announced by the public adviser of the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine Olha Stefanyshina Serhiy Nezhinsky on the air Ukrainian radio.
According to him, only part of the cases were submitted to the court for consideration.
“There are already 203 or 205 cases, the Office of the Prosecutor General’s Office has officially verified and submitted to the court. There are 93,000 calls that have been verified by the National Police and transferred, sent to the relevant centers for assisting those saved,” he said. .
Nezhinsky added that it is planned to work on changes to the Criminal Code. We are talking about creating a separate article on punishments for sexual violence during wartime.
He also noted that several hubs are currently operating in Ukraine, where victims can apply on a confidential basis.
“These are 11 centers created during the year. Basically, in the east of Ukraine. The first is in Zaporozhye, then Sumy, Kropyvnytskyi, Kiev, there are many of these initiatives. And this is a hub where a person, even without contacting law enforcement agencies can seek help – humanitarian, medical, legal, psychological,” said the advisor.
It was previously reported that since the start of a full-scale war in Ukraine, 225 cases of sexual violence committed by Russian war criminals have been recorded.
According to the Prosecutor General of Ukraine, Andriy Kostin, the Russian Federation uses sexual violence as a weapon.
