Strelkov-Girkin assured that he sees no reason to hide from the investigation and “does not understand” why he is in prison.
The Moscow City Court upheld the arrest of former so-called “DPR Defense Minister” Igor Strelkov (Girkin), accused of inciting extremism, the Russian propaganda agency TASS reports.
“The appeals of the defense are rejected,” TASS quoted the court’s decision.
The criminal case against Strelkov was initiated on July 18.
“During the trial, the defendant’s defense insisted on changing his preventive measure to a milder one. As follows from the lawyers’ appeals, after the arrest, he “voluntarily gave access to the phone and laptop”, will not hide from the investigation, gives consistent and truthful testimony and is ready to appear before the court and the investigating authority at the first request. The accused himself said that he did not understand why he was chosen to be sent to a pre- trial detention center,” TASS wrote.
As the newspaper writes, Strelkov assures that he sees no reason to hide from the investigation.
“I am always in the field of view of the security agencies, I am wanted by the judgment of the Hague Tribunal. I do not consider myself guilty and I do not see any formal reason to hide from the investigation and the court,” he said.
Recall that the court sent Igor Girkin under arrest for two months – until September 18. Since the beginning of Russia’s large-scale invasion of Ukraine, Girkin has repeatedly been critical of the course of the war and strictly criticized the actions of the leadership of the Russian Federation, including President Vladimir Putin, and also publicly called for Putin to resign. .
