The Western military, which trains Ukrainian fighters in the EU, is facing a shortage of interpreters.

    .

Dutch General Martin Bonn, who is in charge of the training mission, told the Financial Times that translators are “problem number one”.

Often they are not qualified enough both from the Ukrainian side and from Western countries. A big problem is the translation of military and technical terms.

Language proficiency became a problem during the training of Ukrainian pilots on the F-16. The Danish military said the training was delayed due to pilots’ security clearance, language proficiency and health checks.

European instructors praise the “tremendous motivation” of Ukrainian recruits, but say their ages and abilities vary widely, as Ukrainian commanders are often unwilling to hand over their best men.
