The Ukrainian Defense Forces have made new tactically significant gains in the western Zaporozhye region and are allegedly advancing through “Russia’s most difficult series of prepared defense positions.” The Ukrainian army is close to hitting the next line. This is discussed in a new report by the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW), citing Ukrainian, American and Russian sources.
Analysts cite a Reuters publication that quotes an unnamed UAF officer. The military said that Ukrainian units entered areas where they encountered only Russian “logistics groups.” Therefore, the commander expects further breakthroughs from Ukraine to be easier here.
And geolocation data from August 25 indicates that Ukrainian forces advanced 1.5 km south northeast of Novoprokopovka, Zaporozhye region (13 km south of Orekhov).
Ukrainian troops are now within striking distance of the next series of prepared Russian defensive positions, which may be weaker than the previous line of Russian defensive positions, but still a significant challenge, the ISW report says.
It is also reported that the defense of the invaders consists of densely mined fields and fortifications, and the next line – of anti-tank ditches, “dragon’s teeth” and additional minefields.
Recall that the Russian command transferred elite units to the Robotino area in the Zaporozhye direction – parts of the 76th Guards Airborne Assault Division and the 7th Guards Mountain Rifle Division. Previously, these formations fought near Kremennaya in the Lugansk region. and Kherson region.
