The political bloc of the presidential administration (AP) of the Russian Federation, led by Sergei Kiriyenko, has decided on “sparring partners” who will “compete” with Vladimir Putin in the 2024 presidential election.

According to two Meduza sources close to the Kremlin, age was one of the main selection criteria. The registered candidates must not include politicians under 50 years of age. The presence of such candidates on the ballot could make Russians think that the 70-year-old Putin is “no longer the man who came to power with a tough hand,” according to presidential officials.
So far, the Presidential Administration is counting on the fact that, in addition to Putin, representatives of three supposedly parliamentary parties will go to the polls: the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, the Liberal Democratic Party and the New People (Fair Russia leader Sergei Mironov announced that his party will not nominate a candidate and will support Vladimir Putin).
The Kremlin sees Gennady Zyuganov as a candidate from the Communist Party of the Russian Federation.
No dark horses [висунутого комуністами у 2018 році бізнесмена Павла] Grudinina. Zyuganov is familiar to the president, has a high status as a party leader, his name is familiar to every voter. At the same time, he has a ceiling – the Communist Party of the Russian Federation has a solid electorate, he will not attract new voters, – explained one of Meduza’s interlocutors close to the Presidential Administration.
In 2008, in the presidential elections, Zyuganov received 17%, in 2012 – 18%. Such stability of the rating is important for the Kremlin – it is planned that the path will gain a “record result” in the upcoming elections.
The Kremlin dictator should receive more than 80% of the vote with a turnout of more than 70%. Hypothetically, this could have been prevented by the repetition of the story with Grudinin – then the candidate agreed with the Kremlin began to suddenly gain ratings, and the Presidential Administration had to wage a full-fledged black PR campaign against him.
There will be no such excesses with Zyuganov, who is boring to everyone,” Meduza’s interlocutor close to the Presidential Administration is sure.
Now Zyuganov’s trust rating in relation to the Levada Center is 3%, the rating of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation according to VCIOM is 10.2%.
Recall that five years ago, Putin, despite all his previous promises, again became the president of Russia. And then he “nullified” his terms and unleashed a war in Ukraine.
