He plans to improve economic ties between the countries and deliver a tough stance on US national security issues.
US Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo arrived in Beijing on Sunday, August 27 for a four-day visit to strengthen business ties between the two countries, Reuters reported.
Raimondo said he would convey to Chinese officials that “when it comes to national security, we don’t negotiate. We don’t make concessions. We don’t compromise.”
Relations between the countries are now strained as the United States works with allies to block China’s access to semiconductors, while Beijing restricts supplies from prominent chipmaker Micron Technology and fines the US firm Mintz Group for $1.5 million.
In August, the White House began banning some US investments in sensitive technology in China and plans to soon end semiconductor export restrictions it implemented in October.
At the same time, Raimondo plans to revive tourism between the two countries.
This month, China and the United States have agreed to double the number of flights between their cities.
It was previously reported that the United States is ready to extend the scientific cooperation agreement with China.
It can be remembered that US President Joe Biden called China a “time bomb” because of the country’s economic problems.
