A US military tiltrotor Boeing MV-22B Osprey carrying 23 Marines crashed in the Australian Tiwi Islands during an exercise. The Guardian newspaper reported this on Sunday, August 27.
The MV-22B Osprey was reported to have crashed in the morning on Melville Island, 60 km north of Darwin. A CareFlight rescue helicopter and police flew to the scene.
One person was taken by helicopter to the Royal Darwin Hospital in a critical condition, while two others are in a stable condition.
No one was reported dead in the incident. The causes of the accident and the condition of the other military aboard were not specified.
The accident came just days after the start of the Predators Run 2023 exercise in Top Andy, with soldiers from the Philippines, Indonesia and East Timor. About 150 US Marines stationed in Darwin are also involved.
A total of 2,500 soldiers are participating in the multinational exercise.
Earlier this week, an F/A-18 Hornet fighter jet crashed in the US north of San Diego, California. The crash occurred in a remote area east of Marine Corps Air Station Miramar.
