Colombia allows a third gender to be indicated on passports

Citizens of the country will be able to obtain a non-binary gender identity on identity cards.

The Colombian government has officially allowed a third gender to be “X” on official documents. About this August 24 reported Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the country.

Now citizens of the country who do not identify themselves as either men or women can obtain documents with the appropriate mark, both in Colombia and in its foreign missions.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs recognizes the existence of gender diversity (…) This is social justice,” said passport office spokeswoman Andrea Garzon.

Note that Colombia has joined more than ten countries in the world that allow the indication of a third gender in official documents. These include, inter alia, Germany, USA, Mexico, Argentina, Australia, New Zealand, Pakistan and Nepal.
