An outbreak of a deadly infection occurred in Rzeszow

Authorities are investigating whether the spread of legionellosis in the hub city of weapons for Ukraine was sabotage.

In Polish Rzeszow, which is the center of arms supplies to Ukraine, a rare and dangerous “Legionnaires’ Disease” was discovered. Special services establish whether the spread of infection is sabotage. On Friday, August 25, according to Bloomberg.

It is known that the disease has claimed seven lives, 113 others have been hospitalized. Local authorities are conducting tests and hope to find out the source of the outbreak on Monday, regional government head Eva Leniart said. According to him, people have been infected by contaminated water in the water supply system, the authorities are keeping the situation under control.

Rzeszow is located about 100 kilometers from the Ukrainian border. Since the beginning of the massive Russian invasion, the city has been a major staging post for humanitarian aid and military supplies. American soldiers are stationed here, as well as the Patriot air defense system. It is also a transit point for many officials traveling to Kyiv.

The investigation aims to identify possible external actions that could have led to the outbreak, said Stanislav Zaryn, Poland’s Space Information Security Commissioner.

Legionellosis (Legionnaires’ disease) is a type of pneumonia that, according to the World Health Organization, leads to death in 5-10% of cases on average. People can become infected through the air, as well as when swimming in bodies of water infected with legionella or drinking contaminated water.

Recall that in May last year, Zelensky awarded Rzeszow the title of Savior City.
